Component prices will be

$80 for zigbees
$60 for gps module
$40 for micro controllers
$20 for lcd
$30 for extras
exc. shipping

probably around $250 (R2100)

There is one very simple solution, using the antenna tracking idea along the same lines as what Jasper has suggested. Trying to find the link now...

Yow, R2100 is not cheap!
I think the small GPS tracking units are much much cheaper than that.

Ye the ones I linked above from eBay are GSM trackers.

A gsm tracker would obviously be cheaper around R1000 or less. All it involves is a battery, gps and gsm module...

Yup, thats it, something that doesnt require the gsm towers will obviously be more expensive.
