Micro FPV...small but so cool!

Postby KevPerkins » Wed Oct 31, 2012 7:19 pm

I finally got all the bits and pieces I ordered for my son's birthday gift - was supposed to have arrived over a month ago but finally cleared customs today

Oh well, at least it arrived - I suppose I should be grateful for that. I just wanted to check with an expert if I've got all the necessary pieces for a BASIC FPV set-up.

So Johan or Gareth or one of our resident experts - please take a moment and have a look at these images and let me know if I need anything else. I'm planning to attach it to a Walkera Ladybird Quad.

Nano Video Transmitter 5.8GHz

The DVD player has regular AV inputs and I have a Video Receiver (can't show image here as I've uploaded the max number of images but it's a 5.8GHz Video Rx

So I was planning on fitting Camera plus nano-transmitter to the Ladybird and then Video RX to DVD Player AV input jacks.

Will this work? Always grateful for your advice guys!

Cheers :D

That looks like a neat little setup! Have you seen the FPV setup from RCModelReviews for the Ladybird? Here's his Youtube page:

Had a look - remembered I actually HAVE seen this guy before. Calls himself XJET on another forum. His real name is BRUCE SIMPSON. He lives in New Zealand. 8-)

Love his videos. First one I saw was his review of the Fatshark Dominator FPV goggles on Youtube. He knows his stuff that's for sure! It looks like he actually earns a living by doing product builds and reviews...how cool is that

his website is http://www.rcmodelreviews.com

hey kevin that looks like a god setup im going to do that for photgraphy so you can frame the shot. a guy brett at the FPV clinic in durban had a similar thing , it was so neat, he open the back of the monitor up and put the radio receiver inside the case of the monitor with the aerial sticking out, then he mounted it on his radio controller and ran a wire to power it from his radio controller battery, so neat!

Said the range was only 200m but fine for LOS flying. Said with clover leaf antennas the range went up to like 1 km .
where did you get your micro radio and how much?

I got the Transmitter (US$39), wide-angle lens (US$14.90) and receiver (US$44) from http://www.fpvhobby.com

I got the nano camera (US$49.95) from New Generation Hobbies (www.nghobbies.com).

Just be warned... fpvhobby is based in Turkey. Parcel took AGES to get here and then I had to collect from the International Postal Depot at JetPark (behind OR TAMBO airport). Was a flippin' MISSION and a half! I'm sure if I look hard enough I could source a better supplier and get the stuff delivered to my PO Box like everything else I order from overseas. If and when I do I'll post it on the forum. No need for others to go through the same sh*& I did.

I'm home now for a few days so will hopefully be able to make some progress on the build.
