Spironet 5.8Ghz Antenna

Postby robone » Sat Aug 11, 2012 9:10 pm

Has anyone used the 5.8Ghz SpiroNET Antenna yet and does it work.

I am looking for a better antenna to increase the range on my Fatshark Predator.

That antenna looks awesome! I might have to get me a set, I've already damaged my blue beam whips from crashing. That protection dome the spironet set have will come in handy.

Are you using the standard whip antenna Rob? You might not get further range but certainly more reliable when switching to circular polarised antennas. If you want further range I would suggest a directional antenna like a crosshair or patch, and maybe run two antennas with diversity.

Hi Rob

I ordered a set of these antennas and they arrived yesterday. I'll let you know how they preform :)

You are quick. I was just about to push the button. I did some range testing with my Fatshark 5.8Ghz system over the weekend and at about 200m, if you turn your head away from the multirotor, you start to lose signal. The head attenuates the 5.8Ghz quite well. Well mine does.

Let me know how it goes.

The Spironet receiver antenna is longer than most so that your head does not interfere as much :) I have a 600mw system and my max range I have flown to was roughly 400m before video breakup got too bad. But my picture quality or stability rather was very poor, whether I was close or far away. I am hoping it is an antenna problem because if it's not then I am going to be a bit stumped...

Its a good thing that you are getting it higher than your head. At 600mw you will surely be frying your brains slowly.

So is that what they call a Hot Head ?

I knew the 2.4 Ghz signal was attenuated by leaves and bodies, but never thought 5.8 Ghz had the same effect.

Keep in mind that the receiver doesn't transmit any brain-frying waves, it just receives it, so your noggin is safe.

Thank goodness, I can't afford to lose any more brain cells. :shoot:

That's because you were strapping the transmitter to your head. Your brain cells are now mushy.
