VulcanUAV Skyhook Y6 build

Postby henlo » Mon May 20, 2013 3:30 pm

Hi there!

I want to build a Vulcan Y6 - my first y6, have only build a few Tricopters. So, what I plan to use is the following:

Vulcan Y6 1200mm supplied by Rob @ http://www.multirotor.co.za
HK f30a Esc's (flashed with SimonK)
AX-4008q 620kv motors
11x4.7 APC Props Pushers @ http://www.stuffinc.co.za
APM2.5 for controller. Used it in 1 of my Tri's with great success. http://www.sadrones.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=766
3DR with Ublox Gps
Immersionrc 600mw Tx
2 x 4500mah 4s Lipo's (will use 4 of them in a later stage)
Turnigy 9XR with frsky receiver
From Above Brushless gimbal supplied by Rob @ http://www.multirotor.co.za

OK, so that's the plan. Pic's will follow... :-)

Took 2 x Tricopter harnesses & solder them together. I find it easier to turn the Y6 upside down & then remove the bottom plate to mount the electronics on the top plate. That way you don't have to remove the bolts in the arms.

Today I broke the golden rule! ALWAYS take your props off when testing your copter! Copter jumped up, made a somersault & made a nice landing upside down on my head! :-(

REMEMBER: Wear a helmet when you do the next step!!! :-)

This is ONLY for APM 2.5 use:

This thing fly SO easy & SO stable! Look like almost no vibration - will see when I add a camera. Here are my 1st vid:

Hi Henlo

Every time I look at that picture of your head I get a head ache. You are so lucky....well also unlucky. I had a system come alive in my hands and I was lucky, all I got was chopped fingers. I have also been chased by a quad that decided I needed a new facial. A friend of mine had their multirotor decide it liked the clouds better and took off never to be seen again. Accidents happen and hopefully we can all learn to be more careful.

One day, with your permission, I would like to add your pic to my website, because I get so many enquiries from potential customers who think that these are toys and do not feel it necessary to treat these machines with the respect they deserve.

The build looks good by the way.

Looking forward to seeing the Brushless Gopro Gimbal on it

Cheers
Rob
